I am interested in thought experiments, perception, the manipulation of reality and testing what is ‘real’ and ‘true’. While my work is by no means scientific I use my own thought experiments and logic to unravel what might hide beneath everyday’s reality. I’m fascinated with the in-betweens; the borders between reality, science and fiction, between perception, truth and illusion, knowledge, association and imagination. I’m searching for the magic in reality and the surrealism in objects.
This series of paintings show still lifes of kitchen sponges, which I arranged and illuminated to become astronomic or cosmic objects like Stonehenge or Kubrik’s monolith. The titles refer to physical light effects and astronomical events.
